Works notification
Dear Toormina High School students and parents and carers,
Thank you for your patience as we work through the mould issue that was identified at Toormina High School on Friday 24 May 2024. We would like to let you know that the school will be operational on Monday 27 May 2024 with some minor adjustments to allow for additional cleaning to occur.
An independent hygienist visually inspected the school on Saturday 25 May 2024. They confirmed that the environmental clean conducted was thorough and meets their expectations. As an added precaution, there are some rooms that will require additional cleaning and will remain closed with access restricted for staff and students. These rooms are:
- Building C ground floor tiered learning space, music room, storeroom, and sub floor storage area
- Building D PE staff room/study
- Building E Aurora room and server room.
Items in these rooms will not be accessible until the independent hygienist returns to inspect these spaces and issues a clearance certificate. Alternative arrangements will be made to ensure learning and teaching continues.
All work involving hazardous materials will take place outside of school hours, with additional safety measures and air monitoring in place while work is being done. All remediation and cleaning work will be conducted in accordance with recommendations from the independent hygienist.
The school is aware of the preventative measures as advised by NSW Health's mould factsheet to help avoid mould growth and is following these steps as best they can. These measures include maximising natural ventilation where possible by opening windows and doors and using mechanical ventilation such as air purifiers and dehumidifiers as needed.
